REPAJU 2018: The Youth, Faith and the Vocational Discernment

From 10 to 13 February 2018, we had the joy of living the XVI REPAJU, Carnival retreat for the youth, illuminated by the theme of the youth Synod: “The Youth, faith and the vocational discernment”. Supported by the preparatory document for the Synod, the team elaborated a prayer schedule with the aim of helping the youth to perceive the presence of God in their life, like a companion on their journey as a Providence. There were 36 youth who participated in the retreat coming from different cities of the state, St. Paul, and were accommodated in our community at Sorocaba for three days. The team was consisted of sisters and lay members of the Providence Family of various communities who were concerned with the reflections, dynamics and the dramatizations of the life of St. Luigi Scrosoppi.

Following the theme of the Synod, on the first day we reflected on Situations of the Youth, subject to influences from all sides, but must learn to decide for themselves and choose the proposal of Jesus. The young people accepted spontaneously to keep aside their cell phones, to live fully the moments of encountering God without distractions.

On Sunday we reflected on Faith. Through the example of a “Potter”, contemplated the creation of God and thanked Him for our lives; with the “panel of faith”, we remembered those people who in one way or other spoke of God or who presented Jesus or educated the youth in faith. And then we had reflected on the friendly relationship of Father Luigi with God, theProvident Father. Spontaneously the youth started sharing their experience of Providence in their lives; a journey in which everything went on well, and an unexpected solution of a situation which led to life, and there were many other beautiful sharing with full of life.

Monday’s theme was the vocational discernment, reflected on the meaning and importance of discernment in the life of everyone, the value of prayer and examples of some of the Biblical figures like Martha and Mary. The question was: in our daily life, do we choose “the better part”? We had the presence of a couple Carla and Jose who gave testimony on the value of “family” and who give their own time for their neighbours who are in need, because being professionals of dentistry, they have decided to work as volunteers in the places most in need. The youth appreciated the testimony of this couple and they were enthusiastic with the theme of the day.

In the afternoon we met our old mothers in old age home in the community of St. Teresa of Child Jesus (“comunità Santa Terezinha”), where each mother expressed how happy she is, being a consecrated sister. In the evening during the feast celebration, youth shared all their experiences through dramatic presentations. In this way they carry in their hearts the message that, despite the difficulties and proposals of today’s world, it is possible to follow Jesus in every choice of life.

During the closing Mass of the retreat, we celebrated along with Sr. Gislene, who will be going to Buenos Aires, Argentina as a missionary. All participated well in the celebration of the holy Eucharist and it was felt by everyone because the theme was such which spoke of the joy of following Him. All the young people remained happy for her testimony as a missionary and as a sister whom they met during retreat. In handing over the cross, Sr. Simone Cremer, provincial superior, said that Sr. Gislena is our offering for the Kingdom. Indeed it was a holy Mass experienced by great emotion and finally all embraced Sr. Gislene, the missionary as a sign of support and communion.

Finally, as “good Brazilians”, after the celebration, we concluded our retreat with a delicious barbecue, with a Japanese touch. This REPAJU motivated our team even more and affirmed the importance of working with young people of the present days. We express our gratitude to all those who had collaborated in some way or other so that this initiative could reach a "good end"! Every little gesture has produced joy, visible in the eyes of the young! San Luigi Scrosoppi intercede for us and the Lord bless everyone's life and family! Thank you!

In Montevideo: a road opens again!

“The Providence was the only source of sustenance” … in this new beginning of the school “Rosa Mistica”( Mystical Rose) of Montevideo(Uruguay). The sisters of the community affirm it with joy and profound gratitude.

The Providence: manifested through religious Family with its great help, the Christian community and the laity; if they had not been there with their generous work, for us it would have been impossible to start a school which was abandoned in just 22 days.

The Providence: manifested through the province of Brazil, with the presence of Mr. Orlando whose help was indeed very valuable.

The Providence: which surprises us every day with helps come from all sides. We thank the Lord for His continuing loving tenderness towards us.

We announce with joy that on 1st March started our school year, in the presence of Cardinal, Mons. Sturla, Vicar of Education, parish priest and some priests friends. So far the registered children are already a good number from nursery school to class five, elementary, but we hope that it can be still increased.

We can also count on a wonderful teaching team, with much desire to grow and be part of this Family. The teachers are guided by solid educational principles.

Pope Francis said that to educate is like cultivating, children are sacred soil. And cardinal Martini added that educating is like sowing: the fruit is not guaranteed and is not immediate, but if you do not sow, it is certain that there will be no harvest.

Father Luigi spoke of education of heart and recommended sisters to take care of the children as the pupil of their own eyes!

Let us continue to trust in the Providence and in the prayers of the whole religious Family. Thank you.

We wish a fruitful school year and a good journey on this new road that opens!

25 years of fidelity to the fidelity of the Spouse

After 25 years, in an attitude of praise and gratitude, Sr. Benedet has witnessed the same light which represents her following and the adhesion of faith to Jesus; light which has brightened in prayer, in fraternal life and in the apostolic service. In the chapel of our General House in Rome, we joined her in thanking and praising God for her fidelity to the fidelity of the Lord who loved her as unique from all eternity.

Let us pray that the Lord may continue to make her “Yes” fruitful and grant her the grace that her heart desires.

A heartfelt thanks to the celebrant, Rev. Fr. Davide Sciocco, vicar general of PIME, numerous concelebrant priests, our sisters, religious from different congregations, friends and to all those present at this joyous jubilee liturgy.

Meeting of the general council with the provincial and delegate superiors

On 4 June, the annual meeting of the general council is concluded with the provincial superiors and delegates of the Congregation.

It began on Saturday, 26 May, with a special visit to the Chapel of Redemptoris Mater in Vatican, a singular dip in the history of salvation through the 'reading'(interpretation) and the contemplation of its mosaics. We came out of the Chapel with eyes full of artistic beauty and the heart renewed in faith and in the certainty that our history is truly safe in the powerful hands of God.

On Sunday, 3 June, it is concluded with a visit to the Baths of Caracalla in the centre of Rome and the Villa of the Quintilii, on the Appian Way which is an evidence of a glorious past.

The days spent together were intense with the formative contents we received and the topics dealt with, but made light and pleasant by the climate of simple and free fraternity that characterized our meeting. In the light of the General Chapter, celebrated last year, we have reviewed the guidelines for the entire religious Family and reconsidered the necessary instruments to concretize them in daily life. In dialogue each sister felt involved in the first person, participated in the construction of the common good and was a gift to others.
Now we all rely on the intercession of our Father St. Luigi and we ask Mary, Mystical Rose to bless and support us.

First national meeting of the Providence Familiy

Laity and young people together from 6 to 8 July 2018

From the moment the news of the 1st National Meeting of the Family of Providence was announced, youth and lay people from different communities began to prepare intensely: El Alto, Cochabamba and San Carlos, were ready for the meeting. The theme was on faith and vocational discernment and strongly strengthen the integration and unity of the youth and lay people on their journey towards the national meeting according to the charism of Fr. Luigi.

The theme was dealt by Fr. Enrique Pusarico, a diocesan priest, who with much encouragement began to talk about faith and vocational discernment. Those were very illuminating moments in which all the participants showed great interest. Surely it was an enriching discourse not only for the knowledge of each participant, but also for the spiritual life of each one. Especially when we work in a group, we share our life experiences and know better our brothers and sisters and of different communities.

The lives of our saints, St. Cajetan, St. Philip Neri, St. Joseph, and our father St. Luigi, were presented and shared, in different ways namely; stage performance, through videos, drawings and discussions:, and these saints accompanied us throughout our meeting. The moment of adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, accompanied by the images of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Luigi, highlighted the hunger for meditation and thirst for God, and also the celebration of the holy Eucharist in which all lived profoundly the encounter with God.

They were very happy to have another national meeting of the Family of Providence. Together, as a family, always guided by the light of Christ and accompanied by Mary Mother of Providence, follow the footsteps of St. Luigi and continue to discover ourselves, accompanied by faith in our vocation.

With great joy, we express our happiness, we thank the community of El Alto and the Sisters of Providence for the organization of such a beautiful meeting experience. We thank God for allowing us to share, moments of joy and to keep alive the spirit of unity as the Family of Providence.

Together, without looking at where we come from, without looking at sex or age, we feel that we are called to weave a great bond of fellowship among our communities, we went from being unknown to being friends without realizing it, becoming a family, "Big Providence Family " .

Thank you Lord, for your great love with which you have accompanied us.
                                                                                                                        Community of El Alto

I will sing your faithfulness forever, Lord!

I will sing your faithfulness forever, Lord!
This was the phrase that accompanied our dear Sr. Michelia, in the days of preparation for the 50th anniversary of fidelity to the call of the Lord, a feast that we celebrated on 7th September.

We can say that we lived this festival with all of Bolivia, because there were representatives of the laity from the community where Sr. Michelia, over the years, gave her life, by being Christ's messenger, among the brothers and sisters entrusted to her.

During the homily of the solemn Eucharistic celebration, the priest addressed Sr. Michelia with these words: "Thank you for being a star in the sky, which Abraham saw when the Lord promised him a numerous lineage like the stars of heaven; you are, in faith, a descendant of Abraham and a gift to us all ".

Together with Sr. Michelia, we too thank the whole religious Family who accompanied us with prayers.
And let us pray that the Lord may help us to be faithful in answering His call every day.

New ‘shoots’ in African land

On 7th August, the feast of our protector St. Cajetan, four young girls: Florence (Benin), Gabine-Béatrice and Sosthène (Togo), Solange (Congo) began the journey of postulancy in our Religious Family.

During the ceremony, they expressed their desire to know more about the spirit of the Congregation and to love and deepen the Word of the Lord.

The Gospel passage they have chosen is that of St. Luke 5: 1-11, which invites us to let down the nets with full confidence in the Lord because He is in our boat.
The provincial superior, Sr. Anastasie, in her exhortation invited Florence, Gabine-Béatrice, Solange and Sosthène to let themselves be guided by the Lord, to have always trust in Him since He is always at their side.

After the consecration to Our Lady, Mother of every vocation, she entrusted the young girls to the intercession of Fr. Luigi and to that of our deceased mothers.
Finally she invited Florence, Gabine-Béatrice, Solange and Sosthène to imitate Sr. Pieralba in her simplicity, obedience and abandonment to the Lord and Sr. Pia in her apostolic and missionary zeal, two dear sisters who recently left us for the Paradise.

We wish ‘Every blessing’ from the heart, to our four new postulants.

India and Africa: new First Professions

On October 5th, the feast of our beloved Fr. Luigi, just as the Synod of Bishops on the faith and the vocational discernment of the young had just began, our Congregation had the joy of welcoming nine professed sisters:
-Four in Togo: Sr. Antoinette Marie, Sr. Christine, Sr. Antoinette Carine, Sr. Juste
-Five in India: Sr. Daphiline, Sr. Gloria, Sr. Mukta, Sr. Martha, Sr. Tresalline
With the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience they publically professed the choice to imitate Christ and to offer themselves to Him, to live the whole life at the service of God and of the brothers and sisters: they are now sisters in the Family of the Sisters of Providence.

The Eucharistic celebration in the novitiate chapel of Lomè (Togo) was presided by a Salesian priest and concelebrated by 16 other priests, along with families, friends and acquaintances of our sisters.
The holy Eucharist in the novitiate of Barrackpore (India) was presided over by the Archbishop of Kolkata, Mon. Thomas D’ Souza and concelebrated by more than 20 priests; and were present numerous relatives and friends too.
The common liturgy on the feast of the founder was the parable of Good Samaritan. The great teaching of Jesus is an invitation to be compassionate and sensitive towards the needy brothers and sisters and therefore, to make of our service a continuous act of love and mercy. And this, in imitation of Fr. Luigi, who was an apostle of compassion and knew how to love and serve the brothers and sisters, because in them he loved and served the person of Jesus.
Flowers, lights, songs and dances were the setting for the party, and external signs of joy that invaded the hearts of the nine sisters and all the guests.

Then they all shared lunch in the simplicity and fraternity of the meeting, wishing the newly professed, a long life of fidelity.

This date will remain in the heart of each one as an unforgettable day, because lived in gratitude, with new zeal and enthusiasm to follow Jesus in the family of Fr. Luigi. They sincerely thank the sisters all over the world for the prayerful support they have experienced on this day.
And we pray for them, asking the Lord to continue to bless them and to give each one the necessary graces, so that they may live their own vocation in the Family of Fr. Luigi, with joy and generosity.
